Princess Madeleine celebrates with her best friends in New York

Princess Madeleine is currently on an important mission in New York – but without husband Chris O’Neill. The Swedish royal doesn’t have to do without familiar faces.
Queen Silvia couldn’t be prouder: After the now 80-year-old founded the “World Childhood Foundation” in 1999, her youngest daughter Princess Madeleine, 42, is now also passionately committed to her foundation. The princess is now even the deputy chairwoman of the aid organization that protects children from sexual abuse.

It is also a matter of honor for Madeleine to represent her mother in New York. On Thursday, November 14, 2024, the 42-year-old took part in a meeting on the topic “From Commitment to Action: Sustainable Action to End Violence Against Children” at the United Nations headquarters in Midtown Manhattan and opened the plenary session with a strong and emotional speech. “Curious, resilient and courageous. These are just some of the qualities that we must protect in every child. It is our responsibility to nurture these qualities as they grow up and face the challenges that threaten them,” quotes the Swedish newspaper “Svensk Damtidning” the beginning of her speech.

Chris O’Neill is “still at home in Sweden”
Haunting words that Madeleine’s husband Chris O’Neill, 50, missed. The British-American businessman did not accompany his wife to the USA, as Hof information chief Margareta Thorgren confirmed on November 13th when asked by “Svensk Damtidning”: “Chris O’Neill will not take part in the Childhood Gala. He always is still at home in Sweden.” Last year, the 50-year-old accompanied his wife to New York.

Three angels for the princess
Instead, Princess Madeleine was supported by her best friends: Lovisa de Geer, 41, Louise “Lussan” Thott and Sofi Fahrman, 45, accompanied the 42-year-old to the UN headquarters and then celebrated at the “World Childhood” ThankYou gala Foundation” in Manhattan.

Louise “Lussan” Thott is one of Madeleine’s oldest friends. The two attended the same class at “Enskilda gymnasiet” and celebrated their 18th birthday and graduation together. After graduating from high school, Madeleine and Louise studied together in London and at Stockholm University.

Lovisa de Geer has also been friends with Princess Madeleine since childhood. She is the younger sister of tech billionaire and friend of the Crown Princess, Jacob de Geer, and lived in New York at the same time as Madeleine. After Madeleine’s highly publicized separation from Jonas Bergström, 45, Lovisa is said to have been an important source of support for the princess.

Fashion designer Sofi Fahrman has also known Princess Madeleine for a long time and is an important advisor to the 42-year-old, not just in fashion matters.

“It was an honor to stand by Princess Madeleine’s side”
The Swedish jewelry designer Pia Hallstrom was also able to attend the exclusive gala and promptly shared a private snapshot with Princess Madeleine online. “An incredible evening at the Childhood Gala New York in support of a good cause – protecting children and working for a better future. It was an honor to stand alongside Princess Madeleine of Sweden, whose commitment to @childhood .usa is truly inspiring! Together we are helping to make a difference for children all over the world,” writes Hallstrom enthusiastically about her royal souvenir photo.
Girlfriends weekend in New York?
It is not yet known whether Madeleine will be in New York with her friends over the weekend. The Princess has to attend her next official appointment in Stockholm on Monday, November 18th, as can be seen from the royal calendar of the Swedish royal family. A meeting of the Executive Committee of the World Childhood Foundation is scheduled.
