Royalty Princess Leonor (18) of Spain attended the so-called Pascua Militar, an annual tribute to the armed forces, for the first time on Saturday. The eldest daughter of King Felipe (55) and Queen Letizia (51) accompanied her parents at the ceremony at the royal palace in Madrid, and immediately attracted all the attention.
The Pascua Militar (military Easter) is a Spanish tradition that dates back to the eighteenth century. The army, air force, navy and Civil Guard are thanked annually at the palace on January 6. King Felipe himself indicated in his speech that it was the first time that his daughter, the heir to the throne, was present. This immediately generated a lot of praise in the press.
“For the first time, the princess took part in Pascua Militar together with her parents. And she did it all while wearing her military uniform,” reads Vanitatis, the magazine of the Spanish daily El Confidencial. “Although she could choose between pants or a skirt, the heiress opted for her uniform for this special occasion.”
‘Lecturas’, one of the most popular Spanish magazines, is also full of praise: “Although she showed some nervous gestures, which is typical for a first time in the spotlight on an important occasion, the heir to the throne also showed her control in many moments. And there were also moments when she was fully supported by her parents, who always paid attention to her. The Princess of Asturias has always paid a lot of attention to ensuring that everything runs perfectly according to regulations.”
