Princess Kalina, the daughter of the former Bulgarian prime minister and former king Simeon of Saxe-Coburg, has been released from custody. There was no need to detain her, which happened on Saturday afternoon, after she crashed her car into a hotel barrier in the resort of Borovets and it turned out that she had been drinking alcohol.
The District Prosecutor’s Office – Samokov announced on Sunday that they are conducting an investigation into a fast-track proceeding for a crime committed under Art. 343b, para. 1 of the Criminal Code for driving a motor vehicle after consuming alcohol. According to him, in the presence of more than 1.2 ppm of alcohol in the blood of a car driver, he is punished with imprisonment from one to three years and a fine from two hundred to one thousand BGN.
However, Kalina of Saxe-Coburggotska is to be served with a decree of bringing to criminal responsibility, and the prosecutor’s office will prevent whether there is evidence of another transport crime.
The incident happened around 3 pm on Saturday, in the area of the Mura hotel in the Borovets resort with the Suzuki driven by Kalina.
According to a hotel security guard, Saxe-Coburggotsky’s daughter tried to flee in the car after hitting the barrier.
According to her husband Kitin Munoz – she wanted to move the car so that it would not interfere after the impact.
Because of the incident, the police were called, who determined with a blood test that Kalina had 1.5 percent of alcohol in her blood, the prosecutor’s office in Samokov announced. However, she refused a blood test for the presence of alcohol in her blood. With a protocol of voluntary surrender, the vehicle was handed over to the law enforcement authorities, adds the announcement of the state prosecution, which refutes previous information that the car was seized and that Kalina gave a blood sample
According to the new legal provisions, the car should have been confiscated, as the blood alcohol level reported by the doctor was over 1.2.
Kalina Kitin Muñoz’s husband explained to bTV that she was extremely upset that she had lost one of her dogs, which she had been looking for all day. The most she had had was a glass of wine, and that after the accident, he said, explaining that his wife did not drink at all.
According to him, the case is overexposed only because it is about the daughter of Saxe-Coburg-Gothsky. When the barrier was hit, there was only material damage – no one was injured to attach such importance, Munoz believes.
However, according to the guard who stopped her, she nearly hit a man.
