Last week it became known that Prince Harry (38) and Duchess Meghan (41) were involved in what they themselves referred to as a car chase with paparazzi photographers in New York.
Rejected by own driver
The incident, which should have lasted over two hours, was described as very dramatic and the spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess believed that Harry and Meghan had several near misses.
Many have drawn parallels to how Harry’s mother, Princess Diana, died after a car chase in Paris in 1997.
Now the late princess’s former bodyguard has spoken out about what he thinks about the alleged car chase.
– Crush you
Lee Sansum was employed by Mohamed Al-Fayed to protect Diana and her lover Dodi Al-Fayed. The car accident in 1997 led to the death of Diana, Dodi Al-Fayed and the driver Henri Paul.
Races: – Can’t be done
In an interview with Fox NewsLee Sansum supports the duke couple’s experience of the incident in New York.
– Whether it is the correct story or not, there is a version of it. But from my experience in the past, the paparazzi photographers are very pushy. In the end, it breaks you, he says to Fox News.
– At the beginning you cope with it, but it is very oppressive. And in the end, even the calmest of us think that “now that’s enough”.
Sansum says that he cannot understand how the photographers are allowed to put their lives in danger in the hope of getting the best picture, and highlights Diana’s tragic accident as a classic example of when a car chase can end in tragedy.
Got no
This week it emerged in court that Prince Harry will not be allowed to pay for his own police protection while he is in the UK. The background is said to have been that wealthy individuals should not have the right to use specially trained officers as private bodyguards
“Secret” refuge: – Not true
Harry lost full police protection when he and Duchess Meghan stepped down from their official roles in 2020 to move to the US.
Since then, the couple have used a private security team, but have clearly stressed that this has not given them the protection they need while in the UK.
When Harry was in England for his father’s coronation ceremony, he offered to pay for the protection himself, which the authorities refused.
Prince Harry asked for a reconsideration of the decision, but this has now been rejected.
