THE HAGUE / LEIDEN – Princess Beatrix underwent surgery on her left ear at the Leiden University Medical Center on Friday. King Willem-Alexander’s mother had a cholesteatoma. This is a persistent form of middle ear infection, in which inflammatory cells attack the bones in the middle ear. That can lead to hearing loss.
