The mother of King Willem-Alexander was operated on Friday at the Leiden University Medical Center on her left ear. She had a cholesteatoma, a persistent form of middle ear infection. Inflammatory cells attack the bones in the middle ear, which can lead to hearing loss.
The 83-year-old princess is still regularly active. Last week she presented the Silver Carnations of the Prince Bernhard Cultuurfonds in the Royal Palace in Amsterdam and at the end of May she participated in the annual volunteer action NLdoet of the Oranjefonds.
