The king’s older sister, Princess Astrid Mrs. Ferner, has a birthday. She turns 91 on Sunday.
Princess Astrid Maud Ingeborg was born in 1932, as the second eldest child of King Olav and Crown Princess Märtha. She grew up at Skaugum in Asker, but fled with her family when the Germans invaded Norway on 9 April 1940.
The princess constantly undertakes missions where she represents the king and the royal house.
– In her work, Princess Astrid has placed particular emphasis on caring for the weak in society and on the inclusion of those who are a little different. The princess greatly enjoys sports and outdoor life and is a faithful guest in Holmenkollen and at other major sporting events, the Royal Palace writes in its biography
Princess Astrid’s previous mission was in December last year. Then she took part in Dissimilis’ Christmas performance in Bærum Kulturhus. Princess Astrid, Mrs Ferner has been patron of Dissimilis since 1995.
The princess is one of the king’s two older sisters. The other sister, Princess Ragnhild, died in 2012.
When the princess was born in 1932, it was clear that neither she nor Princess Ragnhild could ever take over the throne.
