Princess Amalia is very proud of her parents, who have been king and queen for exactly ten years this week. “It is special that I can stand here with my father,” says the heir to the throne during King’s Day in Rotterdam.
When the nineteen-year-old princess is asked about her parents’ anniversary, she thinks back to her father’s inauguration. “Where I stood as a small, blond, nine-year-old girl. I have changed and grown enormously in the meantime.”
Amalia thinks it is “very special to be standing here in Rotterdam with her father. On to many years, eh, Dad?”, says the heir to the throne, looking at Willem-Alexander.
The princess really enjoys King’s Day in Rotterdam. “The sun is shining, the atmosphere is good. Everyone has such a smile and is so positive. I couldn’t be happier.”
Ariane: ‘As sisters we are always there for each other’
Security around the princess is currently being tightened because she is under threat. Criminals are said to have targeted the Crown Princess and Prime Minister Mark Rutte. As a result, Amalia lives at home again and not in rooms in Amsterdam, as was actually intended.
In any case, Amalia can count on the support of her family. “As sisters, we are always there for each other,” says her sixteen-year-old sister Ariane.
Seventeen-year-old Princess Alexia is the big absentee on King’s Day this year. She is busy studying for her exams at a boarding school in Wales. “We miss her,” says Máxima. “She called three times this morning. She would have loved to be here.”
