Princess Amalia becomes a member of ‘notorious’ student association after all

It was still a question, but Amalia really become a member of the Amsterdam student corps ASC/AVSV According to the Quote the princess simply joins in the association’s initiation, which is currently in full swing. And that while she previously wisely stayed away from the corporal club.

Amalia at the corps

Three sources independently report to Quote that Amalia is currently undergoing the hazing of the Amsterdam Student Corps (ASC). And that is quite remarkable, because when the association came under fire in 2022, the princess renounced her membership. That year, a considerable commotion arose around the association, when a video was leaked in which a sexist and insulting speech was given.

After this and several other (violent) incidents in recent years, the Amsterdam corps promised to implement a cultural change. And apparently that was reason enough for our princess to take a chance on a spot.

Initiation week

Despite all the commotion, ASC is still the most popular and largest corps in the Netherlands, which is why the association uses a lottery for prospective members. Amalia was initially supposed to be drawn (in which everyone is treated equally), but she eventually joined the post-introduction period. The initiation period for this took place last week. During this initiation week, prospective members learn all about the rules and traditions of the association, but then through the necessary physical and mental efforts.

What does such a hazing look like specifically for Amalia? Well, it is said that she had to raise the Dutch flag every morning at camp, while singing the Wilhelmus for the group. No drama of course, because she must have practiced that song often enough.

Choose a dispute

After this introduction Amalia is not completely done yet, because after that the introduction and hazing at the disputes follows. Last June she knew The Telegraph already reported that Amalia was already in talks with several fraternities. “They are all really nice girls,” she said at the time about her trial days. “It is also a way for me to make friends in Amsterdam and participate a little as a normal student.”

Prince Palace

By joining the Amsterdam corps, Amalia breaks with a long-standing family tradition. Many of her predecessors went to study in Leiden and joined Minerva, the Leiden student corps. That is also the place where her father got the nickname Prins Pils. But oh well, Amsterdam or Leiden, we hope that Amalia can still be a bit of a ‘normal’ student at the ASC. And in Amsterdam too, they will surely be able to come up with enough nice nicknames for her. Princess Wijnfles, perhaps?
