King Willem-Alexander has been on the throne for exactly ten years on Sunday and seems to be staying there for a while. In the meantime, his daughter Amalia is slowly being prepared for her role as heir to the throne. However, the 19-year-old has already made it clear in her biography: as far as she is concerned, it will be a while before she takes over from her father.

Nevertheless, since her eighteenth birthday – the age at which she can officially succeed her father – the Princess of Orange has done everything necessary to prepare. That started the day after her birthday with the entry into the Council of State. Amalia is a member, but does not yet perform any official duties: she wants to focus on her studies.

So the king seems to be in his place for a while. He said it himself in his podcast Through the eyes of the King: The past ten years have flown by and it feels like yesterday that he succeeded his mother. Should something happen to the king, Amalia will ask her mother Máxima to take on the role of head of state for a number of years, she said in her biography. “But I mainly said to my father: just keep eating healthy and exercising a lot.”
