Something to thrill Prince fans. In the mid-1980s, Prince experienced a period of transition in his career with the dissolution of his group The Revolution, author of the famous soundtrack for the film “Purple Rain”, released in 1984, among others. The Minneapolis artist decided in effect of continuing solo. It was during this period that he notably undertook a project around his androgynous alter ego Camille, whom he created and experimented with in the title “Erotic City” in 1984, where the singer’s voice had been accelerated.
An album is then recorded and should be released in early 1987 under the name Camille. The disc went to press but, like the “Black Album”, due to see the light of day the same year, Prince changed his mind and canceled the release of an opus that had become legendary but could not be found or almost, since pressing tests had been made and a few copies have thus emerged.
A $50,000 copy
Extremely rare, one of these pressings was acquired for nearly $50,000 by White Stripes singer Jack White. A fan and collector’s purchase, but not only for those who are now planning to publish the unreleased album. Indeed, at the head of his label Third Man Records, the American musician has obtained the rights to “Camille”, which could be released soon.
It was the co-founder of Third Man Records, Ben Blackwell, who announced it during an interview with “Mojo” magazine, as reported in particular by the fan site “Ultimate Prince” quoted by “Rolling Stone magazine“.
