Today is the third Tuesday of September: time for Prinsjesdag! Of course, it’s all about the Speech from the Throne and solemn-looking politicians, but for us, the outfits are much more entertaining. With the big question of course: which (designer) gems did the Orange ladies wear this time?

Every year we look forward to the beautiful Prince’s Day dresses and hats in which the royals appear. And now Queen Maximum recently joined by both Amalia as Alexiawe have of course lots of designer dresses to look forward to! This is what the royal ladies pulled out of the closet for Budget Day 2024.
Fashion on Prince’s Day
Just as all members of parliament today headed to the Royal Theatre in The Hague in their best clothes, our Orange Highnesses are also showing themselves at their best. Of course, King Willem-Alexander and prince Constantine dressed in a tailcoat and make a queen Maximumprincess Amaliaprincess Alexia and princess Laurentian impress in a set of chic outfits.
Queen Máxima
Today our queen chose a mint green design from Claes Iversencombined with silver heels. And Prinsjesdag is not Prinsjesdag without a hat, and so on Máxima’s head one is proudly displayed in the same mint green color. The biggest eye-catcher is the large bow on her shoulder, but otherwise we can speak of a classic, somewhat safe outfit. Although we also understand that Máxima decided to go for a different approach this time, after her outfit last year was not to everyone’s taste.

Princess Amalia
Just like at her first Prince’s Day appearance, the Princess of Orange again opted for a dark green dress today SafiyaThe long, stately cape sleeves and the openwork neckline are an absolute winner in our opinion!

Does that dress look familiar to you? That may be true, as Amalia is not the first royal to appear in the design. The British Sarah Ferguson wore it earlier this month:

Princess Alexia
Specially for Prince’s Day, Princess Alexia was also in the Netherlands today. For the occasion, she wore a chic red dress by NATHAN from Queen Máxima’s wardrobe, website reports Maximum mode to report. She had neatly styled her locks in a voluminous, half-updo.
Special detail: this eye-catching dress has a nostalgic edge: Máx wore this dress for her own first Prinsjesdag in 2002. A worthy successor to her Prinsjesdag debut last year, as far as we’re concerned!
Princess Laurentien
Together with her husband and Princess Alexia, Princess Laurentien also rode along in a carriage. She was dressed completely in pink. Barbiecore is clearly still alive and kicking!

Prince’s Day
If you find yourself among all those pomp and circumstance by suddenly wondering: where does the name ‘Prinsjesdag’ actually come from, we looked it up for you.
The name ‘Prinsjesdag’ dates back to the eighteenth century. It comes from the celebration of birthdays of members of the stadholder’s family. ‘Prinsjes’ refers to the children of the Orange supporters who were festively dressed on such occasions. The fact that the name comes from the procession of King Willem I to the Binnenhof, where he was accompanied on horseback by his sons, is incorrect. It was not until the second half of the nineteenth century that the name was used for the festive opening of the session of the States General. Aha!
