Prince William revealed, on Sunday, what happened to his father, King Charles, after he wore a huge and heavy historical crown during his coronation ceremony on Saturday.
In front of an audience of 100 world leaders and an audience of millions on television, the Archbishop of Canterbury, the spiritual leader of the Anglican Church, slowly placed the 360-year-old “St. Edward’s Crown” on the head of Charles, who sat on a throne dating back to the fourth century. St. Edward’s Crown consists of a solid gold frame set with rubies, amethysts, sapphires, garnets, topazes and tourmalines, and follows its medieval predecessor with 4 crosses and 4 flowers of mercury, and has a velvet cap decorated with ermine.
