TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Prince William, eldest son of King Charles and Princess Diana, he inherited the Cornish region from his father. The inheritance was obtained after Charles became King of England to replace Queen Elizabeth II.
As reported by CNN, on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, Prince William inherits private land in the Duchy of Cornwall covering nearly 140,000 hectares. The land is mainly found in the South West of England.
The area was founded in 1337 by King Edward III. Its value is now estimated at £ 1 billion or equivalent to Rp 17 trillion. According to the Duke of Cornwall’s website, the proceeds from the estate will be used to fund public, private and charitable activities.
By far the lion’s share of the Crown Estate family’s fortune of £ 16.5 billion ($ 19 billion) belongs to King Charles as reigning monarch. But in a deal dating back to 1760, the king ceded all the profits from the estate to the government.
The estate belonging to the British royal family generated a net profit of almost 313 million pounds. From this profit, the UK Treasury paid a sovereign grant to the queen of £ 86 million or equivalent to Rp 1.5 trillion. Most of this money was spent on maintaining royal family properties and paying for staff.
King Charles also inherited the Duchy of Lancaster, a private property from 1265, valued at around £ 653 million. His investment income covers official expenses not covered by sovereign grants and helps support other members of the royal family.
Until her death, Queen Elizabeth II’s total wealth was never made public and will remain a family secret.
But Forbes estimated that personal wealth last year To Elizabeth II is worth $ 500 million or about Rp 7.5 trillion. His estate is made up of jewelry, art collections, investments and his two residences, Balmoral Castle in Scotland and Sandringham House in Norfolk. The queen also inherited both of her properties from her father, King George VI.
“We didn’t really know what was in it and how much it was worth, and it was never made public,” said Laura Clancy, a lecturer in media at Lancaster University and author of books on real finances. Most of the royal family’s estimated wealth is worth £ 18 billion in land, property and investments.
