The British royal couple will leave for the Caribbean on a working visit this weekend. The visit to the plantation at Indian Creek, scheduled for Sunday, was the first of the tour. But the visit has now been cancelled.
According to the Daily Mail, residents protested the arrival of the princely couple on Friday. In the village there is a conflict over a plot of land with Flora and Fauna International, an NGO sponsored by Prince William. The background is land rights that were still granted during the colonial period.
“We don’t want the couple on our land, that’s the message we want to give them,” said the village spokesperson.
The princely couple will land in Belize this afternoon, where they will meet with the governor general and the prime minister. Afterwards it goes to Jamaica and the Bahamas.
