The will of Prince Philip, who died in April, may not be made public for the time being, the British Supreme Court has decided on Thursday. According to British media, this is done to ensure the “dignity” of his wife Queen Elizabeth.

Normally, wills are made public, but in this special case, the judge has decided to keep Philip’s last wishes a secret from the general public for decades to come. The will remains sealed for another ninety years and after that it may only be opened privately.
“Because of the constitutional position of the queen, I have chosen to follow a special procedure with regard to the royal wills,” said the judge, who also made it clear that he had not seen the contents of Philip’s will.
According to British media, the decision is part of the process to better protect the private sphere of the royals and thus continue to guarantee “the dignity” of the Queen and her loved ones.
