Prince Philip, the wife of Queen Elizabeth II of Britain, who will celebrate her 100th anniversary in June, was discharged from the hospital on Tuesday for four weeks of treatment. Philip was photographed leaving the private hospital of King Edward VII in a black BMW car.
Representatives of the royal family confirmed that the prince had been discharged from the hospital and returned to Windsor Castle, where he lived in isolation from the outside world with Elizabeth II during the pandemic.
When Philip was hospitalized in February, the royal family announced that the prince was suffering from an infection, but did not detect any. The royal family later stated that the prince was not infected with the new coronavirus. Philip, 99, and Elizabeth II, 94, were vaccinated against Covid-19 in January.
In early March, the royal family announced that Philip had been transferred to St. Bartholomew’s Hospital, where he underwent a successful medical procedure for a pre-existing heart problem. He was then taken back to the hospital of King Edward VII.
“His Royal Highness wishes to thank all the medical staff who cared for him at both King Edward VII’s Hospital and St. Bartholomew’s Hospital, and all those who sent good wishes,” the royal said on Tuesday.
On June 10, Prince Philip will be able to celebrate his 100th anniversary, while Queen Elizabeth II will soon (April 21) have a 95th anniversary.
Prince Philip was hospitalized on February 16, and this is the longest time Philip has spent in hospital. In 2017, after spending two days in the hospital, Philip at the age of 96 ended his active participation in official events. In 2018, he underwent hip surgery.
In January 2019, Philip was involved in a car accident near Queen Sandringham Manor. Two people were injured in the accident, but the prince was not injured. In December 2019, Philip spent four nights in the hospital, but was discharged for Christmas. Since then, Philip has not been seen in the general public.
