Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown Announced – Release Date, Plot, and Gameplay Details Revealed by Ubisoft

Ubisoft is bringing back the popular Prince of Persia franchise with the release of Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. The game is being developed by the Montpellier studio behind Rayman Legends and will be released on January 18, 2024, for multiple platforms including PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Amazon Luna.

The game follows the journey of a young warrior named Sargon who is part of a group called the Immortals. The group is sent on a mission to rescue Prince Ghassan from a cursed Mount Qaf. However, on their journey, Sargon and his fellow warriors get caught up in a larger plot that threatens to disrupt the balance of the world. The game will have a Metroidvania structure and will allow players to acquire new time powers to unlock new areas and solve puzzles.

The storyline of the game is inspired by Persian mythology, and the game developers have put in a lot of effort to build a virtual world that reflects the spirit of that culture. The soundtrack is being composed by Mentrix, an Iranian-born composer, along with Gareth Coker.

The Prince of Persia franchise was first released in 1989 as a 2D platform adventure game developed by Jordan Mechner. It was followed by two sequels: Prince of Persia 2: The Shadow and The Flame in 1993 and Prince of Persia 3D in 1999. The series was then rebooted in 2003 with the critically acclaimed release of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time for PS2, Xbox, GameCube, and PC. This release alone spawned three sequels: Warrior Within in 2004, The Two Thrones in 2005, and The Forgotten Sands in 2010. A spin-off, simply titled Prince of Persia, was released for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC in 2008.

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is unrelated to the postponed remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time that was being developed by Ubisoft Montreal. According to Ubisoft, the remake has suffered delays since its announcement in September 2020. In May 2023, Ubisoft confirmed that the game would not appear at June’s Summer Game Fest and that it was “still in an early stage.”

Ubisoft Forward, an event that showcases the company’s upcoming releases, will be held next week, and fans are eagerly waiting to hear more about Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. The event will likely provide more details about the game and possibly show some gameplay footage.

In conclusion, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is an exciting addition to the popular franchise, and it appears that fans of the series will not be disappointed. The Metroidvania structure is a new direction for the game, and the focus on Persian mythology is a refreshing change. The game’s release in 2024 will give the developers enough time to polish the game and make it the best possible experience for gamers.
