An actor or a singer? Jiří Štědroň managed both nonchalantly in his artistic career, even though the singing stage is probably better known. A native of Vyškov and a graduate of the Brno JAMU, he is celebrating his 80th birthday on Monday.
It was probably Gustav Brom’s offer that directed Jiří Štědron primarily to a musical career. Hits like Belinda, Barbara, Julia are played to this day. People also know Štědron from the first Czech Cinderella.
Before the nuts came
The black-and-white Cinderella with Štědron and the young Cinderella, magically portrayed by Eva Hrušková, came to the screens four years earlier than the legendary film Three Nuts for Cinderella. Thanks to the color and the expensive set design, the newer variant of the fairy tale took over the scepter, but it is the songs that make the first one still a blockbuster. Jan Tříska also sang there, but after his emigration the fairy tale went to the vault.

In his desire for his own band, Štědroň accepted an offer for the Plameny ensemble, which was founded by the author Jindřich Brabec. The problem was that the group was nicknamed the Central Committee of the Socialist Youth Union. The fact that the singer received this label haunted and saddened him for many years.
However, his remorse was useless because he was not politically or artistically guilty. He never succumbed to pressure to join the Communist Party, and during this time he sang wonderful things. Maybe Daisy with Jana Matysová.
The traffic light pointed
After leaving Plameny, Štědroň collaborated with Zdeněk Barták and sang for a while with Petra Černocká. The year 1989 sent him to the business sphere in the field of glass for ten years, but the desire for theater did not escape.
Ladislav Županič offered him a performance at the Karlín Music Theater. And it was there that he met Vladimír Hrabánek, who offered him a stint at the Semaphore, which resulted in a permanent engagement. Although he longed for a soldier’s career in his youth, Štědroň spent 80 years without the use of hard elbows and spent more than half of his life alongside his wife Milady, who was a top Czech mannequin.
