The Duke of Sussex told therapist Dr Gabor Mateo that he used to use cocaine, which didn’t do him any good, but smoking marijuana and taking psychedelics helped improve his mental health. Now he could have problems because of it, writes the newspaper Daily Mirror.
Prince Harry could have his US visa revoked after he said weed and psychedelics were a big part of his life. The royal prince told therapist Dr Gabor Mateo that he started using weed and ayahuasca – a psychoactive drink – to cope with past trauma. His confession was made as part of an interview for Dr. Mate’s book The Myth of Normal: Trauma, Illness, and Healing in a Toxic Culturen (The Myth of Normality: Trauma, Illness, and Healing in a Toxic Culture), about which he stated: “I started doing it recreationally and then I started to realize how good it was for me.”
But some say US immigration officials are taking a draconian stance when it comes to non-Americans using drugs in the country. According to Piers Morgan, the Duke of Sussex could have jeopardized his stay by admitting to drug use for health reasons, as we wrote here.
The talk show host, who has made no secret of his cynicism about Harry and Meghan’s claims, said: “No sooner had Harry finished a world tour in support of his treasonous family-wrecking memoir than he inevitably decided the world hadn’t heard enough from him. So Harry’s latest foray is a live therapy session with Dr. Gabor Mat – a well-known trauma expert – in which he reminds us once again that he, Harry, is the world’s greatest victim.”
Harry told Dr. Mateo that low-threshold recreational drug use had become an essential part of his life, helping him cope with the trauma and pain of his past. In your memories Sub wrote that in 2015, while living at Nottingham Cottage, he smoked marijuana. He also told Doctor Mateo, which aired on Saturday, that cocaine did nothing for him. “It was more of a social thing for him and it gave him a sense of belonging. It probably also made him feel different than how he felt, which was a bit of a purpose for him. Marijuana, on the contrary, helped him.”
For Prince Harry, the South American entheogenic drink ayahuasca was like cleaning the windshield from the many filters of life. It took it all away from him and brought him a sense of relaxation, comfort, lightness that he managed to hold onto for a while. He started doing it recreationally and then started to realize how it benefits him. It is one of the fundamental parts of his life that helped him deal with the traumas and pains of the past.
In California, where Prince Harry currently resides, cannabis is legal, while ayahuasca is only allowed in the States for religious purposes and some cities have decided to decriminalize it.
However, traveling to the US with these substances may be illegal because medical cannabis is not regulated by the FDA. However, in some cases in the past, British nationals like Harry have been banned from the US due to controversial drugs. In 2014, Nigella Lawson was prevented from boarding a plane bound for the US after admitting during an unrelated trial that she had previously used cocaine.
Piers Morgan went on to say that Harry should avoid getting on a plane to the UK for the King’s coronation in May if he doesn’t want to risk getting stranded on the way home. “Another good reason why we don’t want them at the royal coronation,” said the controversial presenter. “We could end up stuck with them for good.”
