Prince Harry’s Pointed Remarks About John Travolta at Aviation Awards
Prince Harry made headlines on Friday with his pointed remarks about actor John Travolta at the 21st Annual Living Legends of Aviation Awards in Los Angeles. Travolta, who famously danced with the late Princess Diana, hosted the event where Harry was being honored for his service as a helicopter pilot in the British Army.
During the ceremony, Travolta presented Harry with a medal, and that’s when things got interesting. In footage posted on X, formerly Twitter, Harry can be heard saying, “Thanks very much, Captain John. Don’t go running away. I was one year old when you danced with my mum, as you told everybody here, and continue to dine out on that — probably every single night. But look at us now.”
The audience responded with mild chuckles, but Harry didn’t stop there. He continued to rib Travolta by saying, “If we’re not gonna dance together, we’ll fly together. That’s it, thank you — we’re done,” before moving on to give thanks.
The moment being referred to is when Travolta twirled Diana around at the White House in 1985. The iconic photograph of the two dancing became widely known, and Travolta has since called it “one of the highlights of my life.” However, it seems that Harry may have some mixed feelings about the incident.
Not everyone in attendance felt that there was bitterness in Harry’s remarks. Director Catherine Hardwicke, whose friend Lauren Sánchez also received a medal at the event, described Harry’s words as “poetic.” She mentioned that he talked about the taste of magic while being up in the clouds and referred to it as God’s playground.
Of course, social media users had their own opinions about the exchange between Harry and Travolta. Some found it cringe-worthy and felt that Harry came across as arrogant and disrespectful. One user on X commented, “That didn’t land as funny! Sounded very arrogant, pompous, and very disrespectful & dismissive to Travolta.”
Overall, Prince Harry’s pointed remarks about John Travolta at the Aviation Awards created quite a buzz. While some saw it as a playful jab, others interpreted it as a sign of underlying tension. Regardless, it’s clear that the moment caught the attention of many and sparked a lively discussion online.
