British Royal Prince Harry’s memoir ‘Spare’, which could be translated as ‘The Redundant’ or ‘Reservist’, will officially go on sale in bookstores around the world on Tuesday, January 10, which has already caused a stir among the public after a number of spicy details leaked.
Some analysts believe that with his opening Prince Harry, fifth in line to the British throne, tried to preserve the unity of the royal family, but the majority consider his memoirs as dynamite exploded in the face of the author himself.
Harry was once a helicopter pilot and gunner in the war in Afghanistan, where he is said to have killed 25 Taliban fighters whom he saw as “chess pieces” rather than human beings. The British media remind us that a good soldier does not humiliate the enemy.
Prince Harry has reportedly received $20 million from publishers for his memoir.
As announced by the representative of the publisher “Penguin Random House”, Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex intends to support British charities with donations from the proceeds of the book. The literary elaboration of the Prince’s memoirs was handled by the American writer JR Mehringer, a Pulitzer Prize winner with experience in editing memoirs without leaving his “fingerprints” on the text, notes the New York Times.
Mehringer also had a difficult childhood and family relationship, which helped him understand Harry’s feelings and misfits in the royal family, especially after his marriage to African-American actress Meghan Markle.
While promoting his book on British television, Prince Harry admitted that in 2019, during an argument about Meghan’s behavior, his older brother Prince William knocked him to the ground, leaving scratches on his body.
William is quoted as saying Meghan’s behavior was “strict”, “rude” and “insulting”.
Harry refrained from responding and William later apologized for the incident. In 2005, Prince Harry’s masquerade costume, which was a Nazi uniform, caused a scandal. Harry now explains that William and his wife Kate advised him to choose this dress.
In the book, Harry admits that he used cocaine, marijuana and hallucinogenic mushrooms in his youth to cope with stress and harassment from the media. In the book, Harry reveals that he lost his virginity at the age of 17 to an older woman in a meadow behind a beer hall.
He reveals that he and William have asked their father Charles, Prince of Wales, who became King Charles III following the death of Queen Elizabeth II last year, not to marry Camilla Parker-Bowles.
Camilla, now queen consort, had been friends with Charles since his youth, but married Diana Spencer, who died in a car crash in 1997. Harry writes that he and William have reconciled and wished their father a happy marriage.
Harry has dismissed media rumors that his father may not be Prince Charles, but Major James Hewitt, who is reportedly having an affair with Princess Diana.
Biographers of the royal house note that over time, the British royal house managed to survive various upheavals. Prince Harry said he would like to have Prince William back as a brother and King Charles as a father, but added that “the ball is in their court”.
Harry, who now lives in Los Angeles with his wife and two children, declined to clarify whether he will attend the coronation of his father, King Charles III, on May 6.
