Prince Harry to Return to UK: Attending WellChild Awards Ceremony on September 7 as Patron

Prince Harry will return to the UK next month. The Duke of Sussex will attend the annual WellChild Awards ceremony on September 7. Harry is the patron of the charity organization WellChild, which has been engaged in improving the quality of life of seriously ill children for fifteen years. He has participated in the event eleven times in the past.

Thirty-eight-year-old Prince Harry, who is patron of WellChild – a national charity for seriously ill children and their families, will attend the prestigious awards ceremony on September 7. But the most interesting thing about his visit to Britain is that he probably won’t meet any of his family at all. Nevertheless, the prince says how much he is looking forward to visiting the British Isles.

“WellChild has been transforming the lives of children and young people in the UK for over forty years, providing critical care that prioritizes the physical, mental and emotional wellbeing of these people and their families. The courage and strength these young people embody and the tireless dedication of those who support them will never cease to inspire me. It is an honor to attend this year’s awards ceremony and celebrate their incredible work,” said Harry, according to a foreign website hellomagazine.com before the ceremony.

The Duke has already attended the event eleven times and will spend time with each of the awardees and their families at the reception, where he will listen to their stories and help them create lifelong memories. Afterwards, Harry will attend a ceremony where he will present the award for an inspirational child (aged 4 to 6) and give a speech.

He canceled the event last year because of his grandmother

“The number of children and young people in the UK living with long-term and complex health needs is increasing. The WellChild Awards 2023, in partnership with GSK, will be a unique opportunity to shine a light on the huge challenges they face and celebrate their remarkable resilience and spirit. It will also be an opportunity to recognize the selfless dedication of those around them, from the siblings and parents who care for the children to the professionals who go above and beyond to give them the best chance to thrive,” said WellChild’s chief executive, Matt James.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, were due to attend last year’s WellChild Awards on September 8, but ultimately pulled out so Harry could travel to Scotland as concerns grew over the health of his grandmother, the late Queen Elizabeth II.

Although Harry was unable to meet last year’s winners in person, he kept his promise and made an emotional phone call to the winners and their families from his home in Montecito.
