Prince Harry on collision course with Netflix over Royal ‘One-Ride Pony’ approach

Prince Harry’s role in first Netflix project discussed by expert

Harry is said to be preparing to return to the UK for the funeral of his grandfather Prince Philip. The Duke of Sussex, who is expected to make the solo trip with his wife Meghan Markle heavily pregnant, will land in Britain for the first time since the couple’s revealing interview with Oprah Winfrey. It also comes after the two of them formally parted ways with the royal family in their attempt to lead ‘financially independent’ lives.

Their deals with Netflix and Spotify are said to be worth £ 110million – but the Duke, in particular, may need to be careful to keep the streaming giants happy.

Pod Save The Queen is hosted by Ann Gripper and features Daily Mirror Royal Editor Russell Myers.

In this week’s podcast, Ms. Gripper drew attention to the news that Netflix will be releasing a documentary on Harry’s Invictus games.

She said: “To a certain extent it’s a no-brainer, because it’s a great topic, with easy access and it’s Harry’s project: The Invictus Games.”

Mr. Myers replied, “Yeah, that’s gonna be awesome.

“You can imagine a great Netflix production online with The Invictus Games that Harry had founded and taken over more and more.

“He’s definitely going to follow some really amazing stories with his competition – some of which I was lucky enough to meet in Sydney during the last Invictus Games in 2018.”

But Mr Myers had a warning for the 36-year-old Duke and suggested that Netflix could potentially be frustrated, given the similarity of the content he is currently working on.

He continued, “As you say, it’s obvious.

“I know this criticism was blamed on Harry and Meghan, and most certainly Harry. What else is he going to talk about?

“After talking about your mother and the trauma you’ve been through since her death, you talked about mental health on so many levels.

“Now you do things for the Invictus games. What will come next?

“And that will be a very interesting question. So, later in the year and in the years that follow, what will happen?

“I don’t necessarily buy this but I think some people have said that Harry could be seen as a one-ride pony.

“It will be very interesting to see how much Netflix will be refunded to him, because they obviously pay them both a lot of money.”

On Wednesday, Harry and Meghan revealed that their first feature film will be called “Heart Of Invictus” and will be produced by their company Archewell Productions.

The documentary series will follow competitors as they prepare to compete in the 2022 games.

It will be directed by Orlando von Einsiedel and produced by Joanna Natasegara.

The couple previously worked together on Oscar-winning short The White Helmets.

Harry will serve as executive producer and appear on screen.

He said: “From the very first Invictus Games in 2014, we knew that each competitor would contribute in their exceptional way to a mosaic of resilience, determination and determination.

“This series will give communities around the world a window into the moving and uplifting stories of these competitors on their way to the Netherlands next year.

“As Archewell Productions’ first series with Netflix, partnering with the Invictus Games Foundation, I couldn’t be more excited about the journey ahead or more proud of the Invictus community for continuously inspiring global healing, potential human and continuous service. ”

The Invictus Games were created in 2014 to help and support seriously injured service members around the world.

It allows veterans who have suffered injuries or life-changing illnesses to participate in various sporting events.
