For decades, cavalry officer James Hewitt (64), a former friend and lover of Princess Diana, has had to live with rumors that he is the father of Prince Harry (38).
Hewitt sent shock waves through Britain when in 1995 he spoke about the romance he had with Diana in the late 80s.
– She was very upset
Denies paternity
However, the 64-year-old has always denied being the father of the red-haired prince.
He admitted the two look alike, but according to Hewitt, he first met the now deceased princess in 1986, when Harry was two years old.
Hewitt met Princess Diana when he was her riding instructor in the 1980s. The two began a relationship, which lasted for five years – and the princess was said to be devastated when Hewitt ended it.
Before Diana died in a car accident in 1997, she recognized him James Hewitt’s claims were correct.
Break the silence
However, Prince Harry has never commented on the claims, until now. In the autobiography “Spare”, which will be published on Tuesday, the prince writes that one of the reasons for the rumors about him was his red hair.
“Tabloid newspaper readers loved the idea that Prince Charles’ youngest son wasn’t his son. They never got tired of that ‘joke’, for one reason or another,” writes the 38-year-old in his biography.
In the book, she writes that it apparently didn’t matter that the mother met Hewitt “long after he was born” — and that parts of the media went so far as to “search for his DNA to confirm the rumors.”
– Worse for him
In an interview with Australian television channel Seven’s Sunday Night in 2017, Hewitt said that the princess had a special aura.
– I cooked and she washed the dishes. Just dinner, relaxation and laughter, she said, according to the report The Telegraph.
At the same time, the 64-year-old has taken a firm stand against media speculation about him and Prince Harry.
– Rumors sell newspapers. It’s probably worse for him than for me, poor boy, she said.
