On May 19, 1536, Anne Boleyn was executed at the Tower of London. She was King Henry VIII’s second wife, and the two of them were married for about three years.
King Henry VIII annulled his marriage to Boleyn in 1536 and tried her for adultery, incest, witchcraft, and conspiracy against the king. However, it is believed that the king simply wanted a divorce from Boleyn and to marry someone else who could give him a son.
After Boleyn passed away, her daughter with King Henry VIII, Elizabeth, became queen 1558. Elizabeth I’s reign was considered a golden age for England. It lasted for about 45 years and became known later as the Elizabethan era.
