Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Archewell Productions Acquires Rights to Bestselling Novel “Meet Me at the Lake”

Prince Harry and his wife, Megan Markle, are preparing to enter the world of film production, after they announced the purchase of the rights to the novel “Meet Me at the Lake”, a bestseller in New York.

The couple will collaborate with Netflix through their company, Archewell Productions, to turn the novel into a movie and bring it to the network, a story that bears many similarities to their lives.

And the author of the novel, Carly Fortune, expressed her pleasure in working with Netflix and Archwell to turn her novel into a movie, according to Forbes.

Book story

The lines tell a romantic story about Will and Fern, a married couple who meet in their thirties, and the period of Will’s childhood is similar to Harry, who lost his mother, Princess Diana, at an early age in an accident, which is the same fate that the protagonist faced after losing one of his parents.

The novel also deals with postpartum depression, which Markle raised during her meeting with Abro Winfrey in 2021, along with other topics related to drug and alcohol abuse that Harry mentioned in his memoirs.

The 320-page novel is set near Toronto, where Markle was staying when she met Harry, and while she was on the set of Suits.

Since it was first released last May, the novel has soared for five weeks on the New York Times bestseller list, and has garnered 95,000 reviews on Goodreads.

According to the British newspaper The Sun, Harry and Markle’s company paid up to $ 3.8 million to buy the rights to the novel, but Penguin Random House, the publisher of the book, has not yet confirmed this.

A quick summary of the events of the novel

Fern, who runs her mother’s resort, meets Will, who is tasked with painting a mural on the walls of a store, and they chat until they become friends.

After the mural is finished, Will offers to take Fern on a tour of Toronto, and at the end of the day they agree to meet again in a year.

Years pass and Verne’s mother dies in a car accident, and the latter begins to think about what to do at the resort, only to be surprised by Will’s appearance again, but this time he is planning a long stay, only to discover that Verne was hired by her mother to change the resort’s policy, and the events of the novel continue.

Harry and Megan sparked widespread controversy when they decided to move away from the royal palace in 2020, and established a new life in Los Angeles.

Shortly after, Netflix announced that the duo had signed a $100 million contract with it for the purpose of producing documentaries, the most prominent of which was “Harry and Megan,” which was shown in December 2022.
