PRINCE Harry and Meghan Markle were given “VVIP status” by the Dutch police ahead of their trips to the Netherlands this weekend.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will land at the Invictus Games and will be protected by a “high-level multi-agency protection program,” according to reports.
His request that his private security team be armed as they head to the Netherlands was previously rejected by Dutch authorities.
But his bodyguards are said to have contacted officials to work together during the Sussexes’ first trip to Europe since Megxit.
Officials are said to have given the couple “high-level assurances that their protection is a priority.”
It comes amid Prince Harry’s ongoing legal battle with the British government after he was stripped of his taxpayer-funded armed Metropolitan Police guards when he resigned from his current duty.
The couple have been assured that “there is no credible threat” to their safety and that Dutch security will look after them impeccably.
The Mirror reported that a “high-level multi-agency protection program” is in place for the couple for the duration of their trip.
It includes direct links to all law enforcement and emergency services, as well as “detailed extraction processes” in the event of a “private or larger-scale terrorist attack.”
The Dutch National Police’s Current and Diplomatic Security Service DKDB is reportedly at the helm of the operation.
Harry and Meghan, 40, are also reported to have taken part in a “hostile environment” training course given by their security team.
A Sussex source told the publication: “Harry and Meghan have been given absolute assurances that there is no credible threat to their safety.
“This is the opinion of the Dutch authorities and other agencies across the continent.
“In any event, given that they will be attending a high-profile event in the Netherlands, both the Duke and Duchess have been classified as VVIPs for the duration of their stay and common responsibility for their safety at all times while in the Netherlands. The Netherlands will be with the Dutch authorities.”
The Duchess is rumored to only be staying for a “few days”, while Harry will see the duration of the international sporting event.
Both will be in The Hague for the opening ceremony of the Harry Games for wounded soldiers on Saturday.
SHUNT THE QUEEN’S BIRTHDAY
And the Sussexes are ready to be followed by a Netflix documentary crew at all times.
Despite being a short drive from London, Harry is ready to avoid a visit to the Queen on her 96th birthday.
The 37-year-old said he “doesn’t feel safe” in Britain without armed security and called the decision to expel them “illegal and” unfair.
He and his wife Meghan will travel to the Netherlands for the Invictus Games, which start on April 16.
But as the tournament concludes on April 22, they will have missed Her Majesty’s birthday on April 21.
The couple’s itinerary has further ruffled feathers after they failed to attend Prince Philip’s funeral.
Harry’s absence was blamed on the ongoing security dispute, but he was branded a hypocrite for planning a trip to the nearby Netherlands.
Harry and Meghan are believed to have armed protection in the US, but are not allowed to use it when they come to Britain.
