Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have repaid the £ 2.4 million (£ 2.67 million) that the British government had invested in the renovation of their home on the Windsor estate. A spokesman for the couple confirms this to British media on Monday.
“The contribution, offered by Prince Harry, will cover the full cost of renovation of Frogmore Cottage, a property of Her Majesty the Queen. It will remain the British home of the Duke and his family,” said the spokesman.
Harry and Markle came under fire last year for renovating the property with government funding when the two moved out of Kensington Palace. A few months later they renounced their royal titles and moved to North America. First to Canada, then to the United States.
The news that the renovation costs have been paid off comes just days after the couple announced a major deal with Netflix. They are reportedly given £ 112 million to make documentaries and children’s programs.
In January, Buckingham Palace reported that Harry and Markle would repay the entire amount. Initially it was thought that it would take them eleven years to do this.
