Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are said to be talking about returning to their childhood hometown of Malibu.

The Sussex family is said to be moving to the coast outside of downtown Los Angeles, home to some of Hollywood’s biggest names, according to a report. The UK express.

They are “in the early stages” of buying a mansion in the area, considered one of the most sought after in the United States.

Some of the world’s biggest stars call Malibu home, from Cher to Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus and Leonardo DiCaprio.

And it’s less than an hour from downtown Los Angeles and Beverly Hills, which the source said is one of its biggest outlets.

A rush-hour drive from the couple’s current property in Montecito to Los Angeles can take more than three hours.

Another factor in the move, the source adds, could be Meghan’s recent move to be represented by Los Angeles agent Ari Emanuel of William Morris Endeavor Talent – WME.

The Duchess is said to be looking to expand her profile as a content creator, philanthropist and producer with the help of Emanuel in Hollywood.

“Harry and Meghan are reviewing their housing options as Malibu is such an important location,” the source claimed. “They have secretly visited the area several times and have been moving around and looking at what is out there.”

“Meghan has known parts of the area since she was a child.”

It’s unclear if the couple will sell their Montecito home or add it to their own property.

The source claimed: “The move consideration comes as Meghan is changing gears and refocusing on Hollywood with WME… being close to Beverly Hills and Los Angeles is where deals are so smartly made.”

Then there’s Malibu’s social scene, with studio execs, producers, and Hollywood stars “offering deals over dinner parties and beach parties.”

Meghan has plenty of friends in the area, with the source saying that “Prince Harry and Meghan will be welcomed at many big parties and will be welcome guests,” despite previous reports that several stars are “moving away” from the couple, including current high-profile neighbors Rob Lowe, Steven Spielberg, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

Harry and Meghan will also have to decide where their children will go to school, as Prince Archie will turn five next year.

For many stars in the area, homeschooling is the norm, but Malibu also has several popular schools where “it’s not a big deal that all the listeners’ kids are there together,” the source said.

Malibu is full of memories for Meghan, whose brother Tom spoke in 2019 about his connection to the region. It is said that he made countless trips to The Will Rogers Beach near Malibu, near his family’s Woodland Hills home.

The Sussex family bought their property in Montecito, a community in Santa Barbara, for £11.4 million (NZ$23 million).

The luxurious property has nine bedrooms, 16 bathrooms, a gym, tennis court, games room and tea house.

It is estimated that if it is put back on the market, it could sell for up to £15.5 million (NZ$32 million).
