The headlines have been countless after the documentary “Harry & Meghan” was released on Netflix just before Christmas.
In the documentary series, the Duke and Duchess, especially Prince Harry (38), harshly against the British royal family. Two weeks into 2023, the prince also released the book “Spare”, in which he again criticizes his own family.
Criticized: “Threw him to the lions”
The book contains, among other things, several accusations against the British royal family for how they welcomed Duchess Meghan (41) as Harry’s spouse.
Buckingham Palace has kept a low profile in recent weeks, and has not commented on either the book or the documentary series. The silence from the royal house has caused several people to react.
At the start of the episodes, you could see this message:
“Members of the royal family would not comment on the content of this series”.
Shortly after the first episode was released, a source told People that neither members of the family nor the royal household had been contacted for comment.
Ridiculed: “But mom!”
Director Liz Garbus (52) now denies that.
– Buckingham Palace said, for example, that we had not tried to reach them for a comment, when we had. They did it to discredit us. And by discrediting us, they could discredit the content of the series, says Garbus in an interview with Vanity Fair.
The director goes on to say that making the documentary was at times a surreal experience. In the interview, the comment of Jeremy Clarkson (62) also becomes a topic.
Clarkson sparked anger after he in a newspaper column in The Sun came out hard on Duchess Meghan.
Lays flat
There he wrote, among other things, that he despises the duchess and that he dreams of people throwing “excrement” at her in the street. Clarkson also wrote that he “hates the 41-year-old more than Rose West”. West is a serial killer who collaborated with her husband Fred, by torturing and murdering young women and children.
– It was an extreme example of the kind of media coverage they have received, says Garbus about Clarkson’s comments.
The newspaper column set a complaint record for the newspaper and was later removed. Clarkson lost his job, among other things its in Amazon Prime as a result of the post.
