Prince Charles Prays for Jokowi’s Success in Leading the G20 Presidency

Prince Charles from English wish the presidency Indonesia from G20 next year will be successful, especially in strengthening global partnerships in dealing with climate change.

In his speech at the opening of the G20 Summit in Rome, Italy, on Sunday (31/10), Prince Charles even mentioned President Joko Widodo’s name directly to express his hope.

“The private sector is also one of the most important actors in strengthening the global alliance between the private sector in dealing with climate change. Therefore, I am very grateful to Italian PM Mario Draghi [ketua G20 tahun ini] because raising the involvement of the private sector in tackling climate change at this very important meeting,” said Charles.

“This is also the reason why I wish President Joko Widodo success every step of the way when you [PM Draghi] continue the struggle [presidensi G20] to him [Jokowi] in the next month,” he added.

The issue of climate change continues to be the concern of many countries following global warming which continues to worsen causing natural disasters and extreme weather changes in many regions.

The topic of climate change is also one of the G20’s focuses ahead of the UN Summit on climate change COP26 which will take place in Glasgow from Sunday (31/10) to November 12.

Jokowi will also attend the summit.

President Jokowi previously emphasized that Indonesia has a very important and strategic role in dealing with global climate change because it is one of the countries with the largest tropical forests and mangroves in the world.

Therefore, Jokowi said that Indonesia’s position remains consistent in handling global climate change.

Indonesia’s position on the issue of climate change is very consistent. We are working hard to fulfill what we have promised. We (Indonesia) don’t want to get involved in rhetoric that we can’t carry out in the end,” Jokowi said at a virtual press conference ahead of his departure at Soekarno-Hatta Airport. on Friday (29/10).

So far, Indonesia has been one of the countries that has been vocal in making calls to developed countries to fulfill their commitments to help developing countries deal with climate change.

Indonesia also said that currently, financial and technological assistance from developed countries is still lacking in helping developing countries implement environmentally friendly policies and other climate change management.

Jokowi said that COP26 would be chaired by British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and attended by 120 heads of state and government.

In addition to Jokowi and Johnson, United States President Joe Biden, French President Emmanuel Macron, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and South Korean President Moon Jae-in will also be present at COP26.
