Prince Andrew summoned in abuse case

Britain’s Prince Andrew has been subpoenaed in the abuse case against him. So say the lawyers for Virginia Giuffre, the woman who says she was abused by the prince when she was 17.

According to Giuffre, the abuse happened at the insistence of businessman Jeffrey Epstein and, among other things, at his estate in New York. Andrew was a friend of Epstein’s at the time. He denies the allegations of abuse.

Summons Denied

Giuffre’s lawyers say the documents were delivered to his home in Windsor on Aug. 27. An employee of the team of lawyers would have tried to hand over the summons to the prince a day earlier. But then Andrew’s security refused to accept the documents.

Another attempt was made the next day. Then they managed to hand over the documents to the police officers who were standing at the entrance gate. According to Giuffre’s lawyers, that is enough.

Andrew is said to be at the Royal Balmoral Estate in Scotland at the moment. His spokesperson told the BBC he would not comment on the latest developments.

Case can continue

Now that Prince Andrew has received the subpoena, the case against him can continue. Giuffre has the allegations against the 61-year-old prince already voiced, but actually took legal action against him last month.

Queen Elizabeth’s son is not facing criminal charges by the American judiciary. Giuffre himself went to court and demanded compensation from the prince.
