In the summer of 2019, the late billionaire Jeffrey Epstein was charged with sexual exploitation of minors and human trafficking for several decades, after several whistleblowers began to appear.
Prince Andrew and Epstein were friends for many years, and several have since claimed that the prince must have had knowledge of the billionaire’s illegal activities – accusations he himself has denied.
Now, however, Virginia Roberts Giuffre, one of the alleged victims of the deceased abuser, has filed a civil lawsuit against Prince Andrew. According to the lawsuit, he allegedly raped her on Epstein’s property when she was 17 years old.
It reports several media outlets, including the news agency AP and ABC, night to Tuesday Norwegian time.

Giuffre has previously accused the prince of forcing her to have sex with him three times between 1999 and 2002.
– I hold Prince Andrew responsible for what he did to me. The powerful and rich are not exempt from responsibility for their actions, Giuffre says in a statement in connection with the lawsuit.
She emphasizes that it has not been an easy decision to sue.

– I know that what I am doing now will lead to further attacks from Prince Andrew and his supporters. But I know that if I had not done so, I would have disappointed both my own family and all the victims.
The lawsuit comes two years after Epstein died in his cell while in New York. It also happens a few days before the law that allows alleged victims of childhood sexual abuse to go to private law steps in cases that would otherwise be obsolete, expires.
“If she does nothing now, then she will allow him to be released from what he has done,” said David Boies, the woman’s lawyer, according to ABC.

Prince Andrew has previously pointed out that he regretted his “poor judgment” in his relationship with Epstein, but has denied that he had knowledge of what Epstein was accused of.
Prince Andrew’s spokesman has not yet commented on the lawsuit, but when the prince was presented with the charges during a BBC interview in 2019, he denied having intercourse with Giuffre when she was under 18.
– I can absolutely categorically tell you that it never happened, he said to the channel at the time.
Buckingham Palace has also denied the allegations on several occasions.

150 victims have received compensation
Epstein was a famous financier in New York with connections to many famous and powerful people. In 2008, he was convicted of buying sexual services from several underage girls. In the summer of 2019, he was arrested again, charged with human trafficking and sexual exploitation of minors. He himself denied the allegations.
Surveillance video disappeared
In August 2019, the billionaire accused of assault was found dead in his own cell in New York. It was later determined that he had taken his own life.
The Epstein Victims’ Compensation Program stated on Monday that it had received 225 claims for compensation from alleged victims of abuse. A total of 150 of Epstein’s victims have been paid almost $ 125 million from a compensation fund set up after his death.
