Primorsky athlete Nikita Pirogov won the bronze medal at the European Sambo Championship, taking third place in the 53 kilogram weight category. The continental championship ended on May 12 in the Serbian city of Novi Sad.
A student from the main sports school, Nikita Pirogov, entered the fight for prizes on the last day of the competition. Sambo wrestler Artyomovsky represented Russia and Primorye among boys under 18 years of age.
On the way to the final, Nikita broke against the representatives of Greece and Georgia. In the battle for the final, he lost only to the future winner of the European Championship – Anton Dodon from Ukraine. In the repeat round, our athlete was stronger than the sambo wrestler from the Netherlands and won bronze.
523 athletes from 28 countries participated in the European Championships and Championships, which took place in Novi Sad from May 9 to 12. This is the largest representation of foreign teams in the last 10 years . In the overall standings of the youth championship, the Russian team was unmatched – Sambo wrestlers won 10 gold medals and five bronze medals.
Boys and girls aged 16-18 won tickets to international competitions at the Russian Championship. It happened in February in Vladivostok. Nikita Pirogov became a silver medalist and thanks to this he took a place in the youth team of the country. He became the sole representative of the Far Eastern Federal District in his composition. Nikita will turn 18 in November.
