Prime Volley League from Saturday; Heroes and Spikers to boost | Sports | Deshabhimani

When the second edition of Prime Volley League starts on Saturday, Calicut Heroes and Kochi Blue Spikers from Kerala will be competing for the title. There will be eight teams in the league. The game will be played in Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Kochi. The final will be held in Kochi on March 5.

Calicut Heroes, who were eliminated in the semi-finals last time, are ready to win the title this time. Under international star Kishore Kumar, the Heroes team has been training at St. Joseph’s College Devagiri Kozhikode Indoor Stadium for a month.

The team captain is American attacker Matt Hailing. Another foreign presence in the team is Cuban blocker Jose Sandoval. With Services’ blocker Shafiq Rahman and libero Prabhakaran joining Jose, opponents will be sweating to break down Calicut’s defence. Other blockers are Harsh Malik and Arshak Sinan.

Heroes retained the experienced Indian all-rounder Jerome Vineeth and made room for the best youngsters in the team. KSEB’s Ansaab is another universal in the team. Apart from healing, Abil Krishnan, Ashwinraj and Asifmon are the attackers. Along with one of the best setters in the country, Mohan Ukrapandyan, Asham Ali and Sushilkumar are also in the team.

Kochi Blue Spikers has prepared for the second season of Prime Volley with a long line of Malayalee players. Erin Varghese, Jibin Sebastian (both Kerala Police), George Antony, NK Fais, Alan Ashiq (Railways), VT Ashwin Rag (University of Calicut), BS Abhinav (KSEB) and head coach ST Harilal are the Malayali presence in the team. India’s super-attacker Rohit Kumar, along with Peru all-rounder Eduardo Romay and Brazil center blocker Walter D’Cruz Neto, are strong enough to topple any opposition. The team’s training was held at Thriprayar Indoor Stadium.

The Blue Spikers jersey has been released

Kochi Blue Spikers jersey released for Prime Volleyball League. The jersey was launched by Kerala Blasters head coach Ivan Vukomanovic and Kochi Blue Spikers team members. The Blue Spikers’ first match will be against Chennai Blitz on February 7 in Bengaluru. The first home match will be against Calicut Heroes on February 25 in Kochi.
