Prime Video: only a few days left to watch this sequel to one of the most famous science fiction series – News Séries

Thirty years after “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” a new series has brought back Patrick Stewart in the role of the iconic Jean-Luc Picard.

In cinema, his most iconic role is that of Professor Charles Xavier in the X-Men saga. But if there is a role that sticks to his skin even more, it is without a doubt that of Jean-Luc Picard. The English actor played the hero of the Star Trek universe in seven seasons of the series The Next Generation, then in four feature-length spin-off films.

Patrick Stewart’s last appearance as Jean-Luc Picard was in the film Star Trek Nemesis (2002), a bittersweet memory for him, as the failure of this tenth feature film in the saga ended hopes of an eleventh installment (a reboot of the franchise would eventually see the light of day a few years later, under the leadership of JJ Abrams).

Patrick Stewart is back in good company

Nearly twenty years after the release of Nemesis, Jean-Luc Picard was able to make his big comeback in a new Star Trek series, soberly titled Picard. Conceived by the same team as the Star Trek Discovery series (although the two programs do not take place in the same era), this new production serves as a direct sequel to the series The Next Generation.

Thus, all the characters from the cult series appeared alongside Patrick Stewart in Picard: Jonathan Frakes (William Riker), Gates McFadden (Beverly Crusher), LeVar Burton (Geordi La Forge), Whoopi Goldberg (Guinan) and Michael Dorn (Worf) without forgetting of course the emblematic Brent Spiner (Data).

Is there a season 4 planned?

The Picard series has been a huge success, allowing a total of three seasons to see the light of day. Patrick Stewart has also said he is willing to continue for other seasons, provided that the story is interesting enough. But since season 3 offered a worthy conclusion, an extension of the adventures does not seem to be on the agenda.

The particularity of Star Trek Picard is that it was able to offer a true sequel to the original series, while adapting to the codes of modern science fiction. The series thus offered an ideal gateway to the public who wanted to familiarize themselves with the universe of the franchise. The series also proved that despite his 80 years, Patrick Stewart has retained all his stature to lead the intergalactic crew of the Enterprise.

All three seasons of the Star Trek Picard series will leave Prime Video on September 30.
