Prime Ministers of Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovenia take trains to Kyiv

Mateusz Morawiecki from Poland, Petr Fiala from the Czech Republic and Janez Jansa from Slovenia are taking the trip to Kyiv. In addition, Polish Deputy Prime Minister Jaroslaw Kaczynski will join.

Leyen and Michel are consulted

The leaders say they travel as representatives of the EU, and have been coordinated with EU President Charles Michel and EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. The countries they represent are also members of NATO.

“The purpose of the visit is to reaffirm the unwavering support from the EU for Ukraine’s independence, and to present a broad package of support to the Ukrainian state and society,” the Polish government said in a statement.

Traveling to city under attack

On Tuesday morning, there were reports of several attacks targeting residential areas in the district of Kyiv. At the same time, Russia’s Defense Ministry claims control of the entire Kherson region in southern Ukraine.

Polish authorities further report that the train with the three prime ministers has already crossed the border into Ukraine. The visit has been planned for several days, since the meeting in Versailles, the Prime Minister’s office in Poland reports on twitter.
