George Meloni reacted sharply to Eliza Scutelli’s proposal to no longer help Ukraine in confronting the Russian Federation.
Italian Prime Minister George Meloni criticized the proposal to stop helping Ukraine, which was voiced by one of the MPs. She explained why it was important to continue to provide support. The corresponding video was posted by the Fratelli d’Italia party, headed by the prime minister herself.
Deputy Eliza Scutelli during the meeting expressed the opinion that it is worth “stopping” providing assistance to Ukraine.
“Perhaps, madam deputy, you will say this to Putin? I’m surprised you’re telling us this. Why? This is probably a betrayal of our position. Because it means we approve of the invasion of Ukraine. Because if we stop, then we give consent, let’s call a spade a spade, we approve the invasion of Ukraine!” Meloni said.
According to her, confusing the words “invasion” and “peace” is hypocritical. She also noted that for any negotiations between Ukraine and Russia, it is necessary that the aggressor country cease fire and withdraw its troops from the occupied territories.
“Do you think that it is necessary to give Moscow the territories that it occupied and on which it held a “referendum” on self-determination? Or not? That’s what I’d like to hear if we’re serious about peace. Otherwise, you are making propaganda at the cost of a sovereign nation, a free people and international law, and this is irresponsible,” Meloni concluded.
Recall that Italy, as part of a new package of military assistance to Ukraine, will provide, in addition to the SAMP-T air defense system, two more complexes: Skyguard and Spike.
In addition, Ukraine requested Italy to provide means of protection against nuclear weapons.
