“For example, over the past two years, the Prime Minister of Estonia has met either bilaterally or in a small circle outside of Estonia: with French President Emmanuel Macron five times in Paris and once in Munich, with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz four times and three times with British Prime Ministers,” it was listed Uldrich.
According to the adviser, flight prices have increased significantly since the corona crisis, so costs vary from year to year. “Even during the peak of the pandemic, that is, in 2019 and 2020, there were not as many foreign visits as in the last two years. After the pandemic, the number of flights was slow to recover, and there were often no scheduled flights from Tallinn,” explained Uldrich.
Two helicopter flights to Narva
The Department of Police and Border Protection (PPA) twice – on August 8 and October 10, 2022 – provided safe and fast helicopter transport for the delegation of Prime Minister Kaya Kallas, Uldrich said.
“For the first time, the Prime Minister visited Narva. Because the decision to travel was made at short notice, the helicopter was necessary to save time and allow the Prime Minister to fulfill all her other duties scheduled for the day. On the other hand, on October 10, the Prime Minister visited Narva with the PPA helicopter together with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, whose agenda included several more meetings in Tallinn,” revealed Uldriha.
She emphasized that the PPA helicopter is used only in exceptional cases and when the possibility of search and rescue operations is ensured. PPA has a total of three helicopters.
According to Uldriha, the State Chancellery has selected tourism companies that organize foreign trips through a competitive process. They are used to purchase plane tickets and, if necessary, book charter flights.
