In several interviews, the former head of the Estonian government, Ansips, called for Kallas to be replaced as party leader and prime minister. Other Reform Party politicians also agree with Ansip.
The head of the Estonian government, Kaja Kallas, says that she wants to wait for the results of her work in the position of prime minister. Therefore, she would like to remain in the current chair for a full term of four years.
Kallas figuratively said that the previous government handed out cakes to everyone, but she had to raise taxes and tighten her belts. Therefore, she also wants to wait for the moment when the difficult decisions will bear fruit and they too will be able to share cakes.
“I am under fire every day,” said the prime minister. “I would like to be prime minister for all four years so that I can see [manas valdības pieņemto] the results of difficult decisions, not just being criticized. I took office during the Covid-19 pandemic, then there was an energy war, then a real war, a recession… I have not had a single easy moment in this position. In a way, I would also like to have the opportunity to give everyone a cake.”
At the same time, Kallas did not rule out that she could accept a job offer in Brussels, but not as a commissioner from Estonia, Estonian public media ERR reported.
The prime minister also did not agree with the claims that she should resign, moreover, she was critical of how the media covered the so-called transport scandal, or her spouse’s business in Russia at the beginning of 2023.
“But what was it after all?” she asked rhetorically. “There were a number of assumptions, but I have not done anything wrong. I understand that some Estonian journalists were angry that foreign journalists did not cover the matter. “Financial Times”, for example, told me that [viņi] examined the matter and saw that there was nothing there.”
