The British government wants to tackle the UK’s deep-seated problems “optimistically and radically” – with this promise Boris Johnson ended the annual meeting of his Conservative Party on Wednesday. In the midst of a persistent supply crisis, the prime minister spoke of a “broken economic model”: For too long, companies had relied on cheap labor from abroad. Instead, after the “stresses and strains” of the past few weeks, the country is on the way to an economy with “better education and higher wages”.
