Prime Minister Johnson managed to suppress the liberating feeling of ‘Freedom Day’ on the day itself. The British Prime Minister has announced that vaccination certificates will be mandatory for access to nightclubs ‘and other places with a large crowd’.
What should have been a happy day for the UK is now turning into a day with a sour aftertaste. Almost all corona measures are deleted today, with a few logical exceptions. And although the British cabinet did not seem to succumb to the criticism of this policy, Prime Minister Johnson has suddenly turned quite badly.
According to the BBC, Boris Johnson said that vaccination certificates will become mandatory from September for locations with a large public. A week ago, the British health minister said that this would not become mandatory. A government report also stated that arranging vaccination certificates as entry tickets had more burdens than benefits and was therefore not worth the effort.
That is not only a slap in the face for many Britons, but also in particular for nightclub entrepreneurs, who will now suddenly have to take many more measures to be able to open at all. Pubs and other catering establishments do not have to do this.
In the last week of September, the UK vaccination society, because that is what it is, must be created. Then a negative corona test is no longer even enough to be allowed to enter somewhere: you must be vaccinated.
The most idiotic of all this is that they first relax almost all corona measures, let it last for two months, and only then switch to a vaccination society. Any kind of logic has been thrown out the window with this decision.
A call from the editors: DDS, like many other websites, is having a very difficult time due to the corona crisis. We want to keep everything readable for everyone for free, so that we depend on advertising for our income. But companies have financial concerns, so they don’t have much to worry about. We also notice the consequences of this. Hence our broadcast to you, our readers: please support us! Through the reliable Dutch BackMe system you can donate monthly or once. Please do, and help DDS stay afloat!
The United Kingdom briefly seemed to be a shining example of where other (largely vaccinated) countries could also move to, but there is nothing left of that. The same incompetence in the field of corona policy prevails there as here in the Netherlands.
