Dr. Mustafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, held a meeting today; To follow up on the steps related to the project to establish the “Soda Ash” production complex and its derivatives, which is to be established in the industrial zone in the new city of El Alamein, in the presence of Hassan Abdullah, Governor of the Central Bank, and Engineer Tariq Al-Mulla, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, and Engineer Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Public Business Sector, and Eng. Ahmed Samir, Minister of Trade and Industry, Major General Mukhtar Abdel Latif, Chairman of the Arab Organization for Industrialization, Engineer Ibrahim Makki, President of the Holding Company for Petrochemicals, Engineer Shaher Reda, CEO of the Egyptian Soda Ash Company, Dean Dr. Hisham Ramzi Gad, from the Military Technical College, and officials of the authorities concerned.
During the meeting held at the government headquarters in the new city of El Alamein, the Prime Minister stressed the importance of this project, which contributes to maximizing the added value of Egypt’s natural and mineral wealth, by providing the local market needs of soda ash, and contributing to the expansion of industries related to this substance, and thus providing opportunities to run.
The Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources reviewed the project of the Egyptian Soda Ash Company, which is to be established in the industrial zone in New Alamein City, explaining that this project aims to establish a complex for the production of soda ash (sodium carbonate) and its derivatives, with a capacity of about 600,000 tons annually. To serve the needs of the local market, and help in exporting the product abroad, as well as expanding industries related to soda ash, such as glass industries and detergents.
The minister also dealt with the initial indicators of the project, explaining that the project consists of main products that include heavy soda ash, light soda ash, sodium bicarbonate, sodium percarbonate, as well as side products, in addition to the presence of feed materials for the project, including limestone, anthracite coal, and sodium chloride. and ammonia.
For his part, Eng. Shaher Reda, CEO of the Egyptian Soda Ash Company, presented the project’s position so far, where he dealt with the steps for selecting a general contractor for the project through a tender with the participation of several international companies, as well as what is related to the necessary financing, and also touched on the position of securing materials. raw materials to feed this huge project, and ways to secure the project with the necessary facilities, in addition to plans for marketing the product locally and globally.
The CEO of the company drew attention to the results of the feasibility studies conducted on this project, explaining that the selection of the site for the implementation of the project in the new city of El Alamein was made after a comparative study with a number of sites in several other governorates, which proved that the site that was chosen is the most appropriate, adding that there is a plan to connect The project site is connected to a railway and electric train transportation network.
