Prime Minister Han Deok-soo ordered the Ministry of National Defense to investigate the cause of the death of a private soldier during a cold-weather training in Taebaek, Gangwon-do on the 13th.
The Prime Minister’s Office said that Prime Minister Han expressed regret over the death of a private soldier during a cold-weather training in Taebaek, Gangwon-do the previous day. In addition, Prime Minister Han ordered the Ministry of National Defense to thoroughly investigate the cause and disclose it transparently, as the incident occurred while fulfilling its national defense obligations.

According to the police, on the morning of the 12th, around 6:54 am, during roll call time, a private in a subordinate unit of the Army’s 36th Infantry Division in Taebaek City, Gangwon Province was found dead. Police and military authorities are investigating the cause of the accident.
The deceased private is said to have slept in a tent at the military parade ground in order to receive cold weather training during the cold weather training at the garrison.
