SEOUL, Nov. 8 (Yonhap) — Prime Minister Han Duck-soo held talks Wednesday with vice foreign ministers of six Central American countries in a bid to mobilize support for Korea’s bid for the organization of the 2030 Universal Exhibition and strengthen bilateral ties.
The Prime Minister’s Office said Han received representatives from El Salvador, Belize, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Guatemala and Honduras, visiting South Korea to participate in a forum and roundtable on the consolidation of bilateral trade and cooperation.
During their discussion, Han asked the six countries to support South Korea’s proposal to host the global event in its southeastern port city of Busan. The final choice will be determined by a vote scheduled for November 28 in which all member countries of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) will be able to participate.
Han mentioned the fact that this meeting organized every four years could be an opportunity for South Korea to share its experience in economic development with the rest of the world. He also sees an opportunity to establish more lasting partnerships with Central American countries.
The prime minister also stressed the importance of cooperation not only at the government level but also within the private sector, expressing the hope that more Korean companies would share their expertise for the development of Central America.
