Prime Minister Han Deok-soo said of President Yoon Seok-yeol’s special pardon on Liberation Day, “The purpose is to revitalize our economy and promote the revival of the common people and the underprivileged in our society amid difficult domestic and foreign conditions.”
Prime Minister Han said in a statement at the Cabinet meeting held at the Seoul Government Complex on the morning of the 14th, “We listened to various voices from all walks of life and determined the target and scope of the pardon strictly and carefully.”
Prime Minister Han explained, “By reducing administrative sanctions for 800,000 people, we wanted to provide opportunities and hope for normal livelihood to ordinary people who are struggling to make a living.”
“In order to recover the economy, businessmen were included in the pardon target,” he said.
President Yoon plans to reapply immediately if the amnesty agenda is resolved at the cabinet meeting today.
