Where I am now is the Hangzhou Grand Hyatt Hotel, where our Ministry of Foreign Affairs briefed us on the results of the bilateral meeting held today.

As you can see, the briefing has just ended.

Prime Minister Han Deok-soo and Chinese President Xi Jinping met today at around 5:30 pm Korean time.

President Xi, who met Prime Minister Han, said, “Welcome to China to attend the opening ceremony of the Asian Games,” and “I hope that Korea will prosper as a sports powerhouse.”

At the same time, he said, “China and Korea are close neighbors who cannot be moved, and inseparable partners,” and that “We will strive to develop a strategic partnership with Korea.”

In response, Prime Minister Han also said, “I hope for a successful hosting of the Asian Games,” and added, “The smooth continuation of high-level exchanges and communication between Korea and China has important meaning as it shows the two countries’ active will to develop Korea-China relations.”

He went on to say, “Both countries are facing heightened tensions in the region and uncertainty in the global economy due to North Korea’s continued provocations,” and added, “We hope to develop a mature Korea-China relationship.”

In particular, opinions on the Korea-China summit were exchanged at this event.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs conveyed the position that China evaluates our efforts to host the Korea-Japan-China summit and welcomes holding it at an appropriate time, and Prime Minister Han responded that he would make efforts to hold the summit as soon as possible after a meeting of foreign ministers.

Today’s meeting lasted 26 minutes, and it is known that neither Prime Minister Han nor President Xi could take a long time because the Asian Games opening ceremony was held at 9 pm our time.
