A greeting ceremony in Orlienas in the Rhône, a meeting with some 150 people in the town of Saint-Laurent d’Agny in the same department. Saturday January 20, the new Prime Minister Gabriel Attal’s plan to address the concerns of residents of a rural sector and test the major themes of his general policy declaration, expected on January 30, was well planned. But the anger of farmers, which is rising almost everywhere in France and Europe after having spread to Germany, quickly caught up with the Prime Minister, who was making his fifth trip to France in the Rhône since his appointment, barely two weeks ago. . On the ground, the executive succeeds the RN who did not wait to look into the fate of farmers. Its president, Jordan Bardella, also went to Gironde this Saturday to meet them.

In Saint-Laurent-d’Agny, from the start of the meeting, the tenant of Matignon was questioned by a farmer about the crisis in the sector, which the government sees rising inexorably. Insufficient income, abandonment of farms, complicated transfers, climatic hazards, high contributions, illegible regulations, lack of alternative to the ban on phytosanitary products, non-compliance with Egalim laws… In a few minutes, all the farmers’ discomfort is summed up by this arborist and market gardener. “Farmers are not bandits, they are hard workers. The end of the agricultural world is near if you do not react,” concludes Bruno Ferret, also a local elected official in Chabanière, his eyes locking with those of the Prime Minister.

“Absolutely major subject”

Gabriel Attal reiterates that agriculture is an “absolutely major subject” for the government and that France is lucky to have “the most qualitative agriculture in the world”, while not forgetting to denounce the speeches “ stigmatizing” against farmers. Unable to provide solutions on a platform, he makes three commitments: guaranteeing farmers the ability to make a living from their work, making their lives easier and helping them renew generations. But a lasting exit from the agricultural crisis will not happen in a day. The Prime Minister took the opportunity to announce that this Monday he will receive the president of the FNSEA and that of the Young Farmers, the latter being at the forefront of the current anger.

Gabriel Attal said it as a preamble to his little speech of greetings to Orlienas. Ten days before his general policy declaration, he wants to confront the “living forces” in France, in addition to discussing as he has been doing since last week with opposition parties, trade unions and employers’ organizations and associations. of elected officials. “I do not plan to prepare for this deadline by remaining in my office with my advisors,” he told the residents of Orlienas. On the public side, some saw in the new Prime Minister a carbon copy of the President of the Republic. “It’s Emmanuel Attal,” said a resident of Orlienas, not really convinced by the mayor’s surprise guest for his wishes.

Gabriel Attal repeated his three priorities: addressing the “French people who give a lot without receiving a lot”, straighten out public services and “continue on the path of ecological transition”. In Saint-Laurent-d’Agny, if the tone was courteous and the audience won over, it was nonetheless served in terms of demands. In addition to the difficulties of the agricultural world, he faced questions on access to health, priority education, hiring difficulties for SMEs, the deterioration of public services, the housing crisis and the recurring problems of artisans faced with soaring prices for their raw materials. Gabriel Attal rolled out his roadmap, recalling his priorities, but he was also able to measure the scale of the projects awaiting him. “I wish you good luck,” a mayor couldn’t help but say to him.
