Financial News Agency, November 9 (Editor Liu Rui) According to Japanese media reports, as Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida’s approval rating continues to decline, Kishida has decided not to hold an election before the end of the year, which means that it will continue to become more difficult for him to win re-election.

Kishida’s approval rating has entered the “danger zone”

Although Fumio Kishida recently announced a tax rebate plan of 40,000 yen next year and provides subsidies for low-income families to help cope with rising prices, this has not changed the downward trend of his approval rating.

Some interviewees believed that Kishida’s proposed policies were just to curry favor with voters, while others expressed concerns about Japan’s fiscal situation.

A survey conducted by Japan Broadcasting News Network (JNN) on November 4 and 5 showed that support for the Kishida cabinet fell by 10.5 percentage points to 29.1%, which is the lowest since he took office in October 2021. level.

Usually, once the Japanese prime minister’s approval rating falls below 30%, it is considered to have entered a danger zone.

Kishida has given up on snap elections within the year

The Prime Minister of Japan has the power to call elections at any time before the term of the lower house members ends in 2025. In September next year, the Liberal Democratic Party will hold a leadership election. Previously, Japanese media once speculated that in order to stabilize his governance, Kishida is likely to dissolve the House of Representatives and hold an early election within this year in order to seek re-election.

However, with Kishida having a full schedule in the coming weeks, including passing an additional budget, an APEC summit in California next week, and an anniversary summit with ASEAN leaders in December, Kishida would be prepared to call for an early election if he called for one. There was not much time for campaigning.

Kishida Fumio has ruled out dissolving the House of Representatives and holding early elections this year in order to prioritize the implementation of his economic plans, Japan’s Kyodo news agency reported on Thursday, citing an unnamed close confidant.

Asked whether elections would be held, Kishida repeatedly told reporters that he wanted to focus on urgent issues and not think about anything else.

In Japan, the Liberal Democratic Party’s support rate has always been far ahead of any other political party. It is almost certain that the Liberal Democratic Party will continue to control the parliament in the next general election, and its leader will also sit on the position of Prime Minister of Japan. However, a recent series of negative opinion polls has cast a pall over Kishida’s political career and may prompt rival factions within the LDP to compete to replace him as party leader.
